Dennis Helfer (born in Donalda, Alberta) and Elaine Helfer (born in Donalda, Alberta), were his parents. Her heritage includes German, English. Swedish, and Norwegian. She studied at the William E. Hay Composite High School of Stettler located in Alberta. She worked and lived at the farm of her family along with her three sisters, Trena, Tammy and Tara. In the age of 17 years old, a scout for models of an agency came across Helfer when he was waiting in line for a cinema.
